Merrick was one of the original 27 districts of Agreeland created on 1 May 2021. Merrick District is named after Elvira Merrick, the wife of a Nebraskan legislator who helped organize the area in the 1860s.
The flag of Merrick was designed on 1 April 2024. The white, black, red, and yellow stripes are Native American colors, also the same colors as on the American Indian Movement flag. The green book represents green fields and the importance of education.
